When making self-consciously retro music, hitting the right production signifiers isn’t more important than plain-old, well done songwriting. Uptown XO, of Washington, D.C. group Diamond District, seems to have figured that out. “Good Vibes” is an AB the Pro-produced late-summer breakbeat barbecue jam that works because of AB’s attention to detail and XO’s thoughtful writing. It’s a single from XO’s upcoming record The Color Grey, out October 1st.
