Sufjan Stevens Scores New Justin Peck Ballet

September 21, 2012

On October 5th, 24-year-old New York City Ballet choreographer Justin Peck and Sufjan Stevens will unveil a new ballet called "Year of the Rabbit" at Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater. We're not sure what the ballet is about just yet, but we're guessing that it's inspired by Sufjan's contribution, which is a brand new orchestral arrangement of his 2009 chamber music cycle for string quartet, Run Rabbit Run. Building upon a 2010 collaboration they did for the New York Choreographic Institute, "Year of the Rabbit" will be previewed at two sold-out performances at the Guggenheim this coming Sunday and Monday, but you can stream both of them here. In the meantime, watch this Yoonha Park-directed promo film for the work, duly noting that it's set to "The Palm Sunday Tornado Hits Crystal Lake" from The Avalanche.
