Stream: Jozef Van Wissem & Jim Jarmusch, “Etimasia”

American film auteur Jim Jarmusch and Dutch composer and lutenist Josef van Wissem are a prolific, if unlikely, pair. They met randomly on a New York City street in 2006, and talk of van Wissem scoring Only Lovers Left Alive, Jarmusch's forthcoming "crypto-vampire film," led to the director actually breaking out his guitar to play alongside him. Next month, they'll release their second album this year, with Jarmusch counterbalancing van Wissem's austere fingerpicking with washes of processed sine waves. Ever the visual thinker, Jarmusch describes their sound like he's storyboarding a scene: "The sound of the lute is as bright as the sun, a beautiful red color and my stuff sounds sort of like the moon, more like blue, like mercury." The Mystery of Heaven is out October 9th on Sacred Bones.
