See Photos From We Got Power, An Early ‘80s Hardcore Punk Zine

In 1981, teenage best friends David Markey and Jordan Schwartz founded We Got Power , a zine committed to chronicling the first-wave hardcore punk community in their LA hometown just as bands like Black Flag, the Minutemen and Social Distortion were on the verge of breaking out. The pair's gritty, deadpan photos captured the bands, DIY venues and SoCal vagrants that would eventually define an entire subculture. A new book, WE GOT POWER!: Hardcore Punk Scenes From 1980s Southern California, collects nearly 400 of their photographs (including high-quality color reprints of the original fanzine) with brand new essays from some of the most iconic players, including Henry Rollins, Dez Cadena, Keith Morris and others. Check out some of their stunning shots below. You can order the book online from Bazillion Point Books.
