Stream: Earl Sweatshirt, “Chum”

November 01, 2012

Earl Sweatshirt just posted a new track to his Tumblr. Called "Chum," it's a grown-up, autobiographical rap. Too black for the white kids, too white for the black, he says after talking about missing his father and finding a big brother in Tyler. Regarding the Complex fuck niggas who discovered his whereabouts, he's unenthused: Supposed to be grateful, right/ Like thanks so much, you made my life harder… Back a week and I already feel like calling it quits. But that only makes the song's conclusion stronger, as Earl dusts himself off and put one foot in front of the other—that "Chum" sounds this great means he's still headed in the right direction.
