Video: BenZel & Jessie Ware, “If You Love Me”

Update 11/21/2012: "If You Love Me" now has an official video directed by Haley Wollens. Its protagonist rides an almost-empty D train home, ending up at a nice south Brooklyn house with a yard and above-ground pool.

We've already heard Jessie Ware's lush cover of Bobby Caldwell's 1978 "What You Won't Do For Love." Now she's teaming with mysterious production duo BenZel and taking on the ’90s. Their version of Brownstone's 1994 classic, "If You Love Me," floats along with a textural weightlessness while holding on firmly to the soulful melodrama of the original. But who is BenZel? A pair of Japanese teenagers, apparently. Fifteen-year-old Umi Takahashi and 16-year-old Yoko Watanabe allegedly met up while participating in an exchange program, bro'd down over a shared adoration of early-90s R&B, and now they're collaborating with a Mercury Prize nominee. Sounds like a teen dream to us.
