Video: Julia Holter, “Goddess Eyes II”

November 29, 2012

Teaming up once again with artist friend Yelena Zhelezov, Julia Holter offers up a new realization of "Goddess Eyes II" (off her 2012 LP, Ekstasis), which features her pretty, salt-and-peppered head lording over a colorful, geometric landscape that looks part Memphis, part Laurie Simmons. The video is inspired by the Latin phrase "deus ex machina," a dramaturgical device employed to resolve seemingly impossible plot points, and is a surrealist tribute to Euripides, whose play "Hippolytus" was the original inspiration for the song. Holter is set to release Ekstatis Expanded (out December 12th on RVNG), which features the album's original ten songs plus five more Holter recorded with cellist Heather McIntosh.
