Download Starlito’s Funerals and Court Dates Mixtape

Although Starlito releases mixtapes pretty regularly, it's always exciting when they come. He's a rapper that has, over the last couple years especially, harnessed a particular form of weariness. His voice is often little more than a groggy croak and he packs as many words as he can into each song. Funerals and Court Dates, if you couldn't tell by the title, is a relatively somber affair that culminates in highlight "Money Cacti," which flips the Beach House-sampling Kendrick Lamar and Jay Rock collaboration "Money Trees" into an even more etherial version of the original, featuring Starlito lamenting not going back to college and his own exhaustion with the world and the rap industry. That might sound kind of depressing, because it is, but it's also a great song, full of warmth, humor and just the right amount of angriness. Starlito might be over a lot of things, but you can't necessarily call him cynical.
