One of the best things about watching a band that uses murk and fuzz as an extra instrument, like Eat Skull, is seeing how they let their natural pop instincts—which are inevitably buried somewhere in there—shine through. Usually it's a process that stretches out over multiple albums, but when they get there, it's glorious. "Space Academy" is that moment. It's a ragged anthem that sounds like it's on the verge of falling apart, but it never quite does, even when the guitar solo, barely held together, kicks in and helps the track stumble toward its heartfelt conclusion. Eat Skull's III will be out February 19th on Woodsist.
