Video: The Soft Moon, “Die Life”

January 09, 2013

I'd never peg the The Soft Moon’s Luis Vasquez as a face-forward kind of artist, though when he appears in this video for "Die Life," he's predictably covered in the sorts of strobes and shadows that people often use as descriptors for his music. Between the high contrast photography and the epileptic jump-cuts, Joy Division is clearly the elephant in the room, although the fuzzed-out TVs offset that well-tred, elegiac association with a touch of industrial short circuitry. Note how well they echo the screaming ambient grit that Vasquez occasionally introduces into the song itself, and grab a copy of Circles from Captured Tracks.
