Video: Phantom, “Kisses”

It's a dirty trick to sample one of Earth's most eternal songs—"Kisses" rips the opening chords and even, eventually, the brain-searing melody of Erik Satie's "Gymnopédie No. 1"—but Helsinki duo Phantom reinterpret it pretty damn well, so we'll allow it. By default, thanks to the sample, "Kisses" is really, really pretty, but it's the way producer Tommi Koskinen adds electronic flourish to—and breaks away from—Satie's original, and the way Hanna Toivonen's jazzy voice takes flight over the last minute, that make the pair's track truly their own. This video is another beast entirely—directed like a slow-mo montage of five imaginary films by Ezra Gould from the Finnish collective Cocoa.
