Video: Helado Negro, “Dance Ghost”

When we last caught up with multi-instrumentalist Helado Negro, he was collaborating with Julianna Barwick to release music as OMBRE. On "Dance Ghost," a song from his forthcoming solo LP, he injects his trademark tropical flourishes into atmospheric, unclenched electro—reminders of his Ecuadorian heritage and South Florida upbringing. The solemn video for "Dance Ghost" explores this cultural influence, too. It features stunning, shaky shots of downtown Miami in the evening and follows a restless young man who, as Negro explained over email, "embodies the idea of transient workers and immigrants who make up the majority of the population". We watch as the man mops floors, cuts through dark alleys and drinks alone in a crowded club before ending the night in an abandoned, unfurnished house where he's finally able to let loose. Helado Negro's Invisible Life LP, his fourth, comes out March 5th via Asthmatic Kitty.
