Video: Ulrich Schnauss, “A Ritual in Time and Death”

January 22, 2013

Ulrich Schnauss hasn't come out with a proper LP in about six years, but his forthcoming A Long Way To Fall suggests that he's taken a hiatus from more club-ready iterations of ambient electronic music to revisit the earliest inklings of the genre in his native Germany. With its perpetual motion rhythmics and intricately unfolding chromatics, "A Ritual in Time and Death" feels like a minor-key take on classic German synth music, and the breakdance-inflected gyrations of a dancer in an ocean setting goes a long way toward capturing the emotional impact of so much of that music, which is all about space. Grab the album on February 12th via Domino.
