Video: Indian Wells, “Wimbledon 1980″

I’ve felt a little allergic to the word “sample” lately, like typing out the building block of a million songs again is blah and routine, but Italy’s Indian Wells are forcing my hand with this gem, off their Night Drops LP out now via Bad Panda. “Wimbledon 1980″ comes with a finely-collaged video by Valentina Dell’Aquila that’s as compelling as the finely-collaged track, together bouncing back-and-forth visual and audio samples pulled from the iconic tennis championship. It’s very weird and super impressive. Takako Minekawa had a track that sampled ping-pong, and I swear there’s a possibly-Swedish hip-hop song that does, too. Anybody know it?

The Hip-Hop track is by a group called loop troop.

There’s this foolish possibility of being wrong, which I’m positive I am. But this is not the video you’re looking for, is it?

    Also timeless and genius.

I believe Nicolas Jaar experiments with the art of ping pong sounds in Colomb. With grunting being banned from the tour in the near future, I feel a Sharapova could have a rendition of Wimbeldon in the works.

Dj Koze made something similar too. Indian Wells track / video is huge.

Antipop Consortium used a ping pong sample:
