Video: Jim James, “A New Life”

In his recent FADER interview, My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James said that his new album was inspired partly by a 1929 graphic novel called God's Man, which follows an artist who sells his soul to the devil in exchange for a magic paintbrush. "A New Life," he says, riffs on the part of the story where the protagonist falls off a cliff and falls in love with the woman who helps nurse him back to health. We're not sure how that storyline fits in with him carrying his guitar out into the desert and serenading a woman with a buffalo mask on, as he does in this music video, but hey, he looks pretty stoked just to be standing out in the sunshine. Regions of Light and Sound of God is out now via ATO.
