"Teenagers probably have trouble ever imagining anything but immorality for themselves," says a wide-eyed Damien Echols at the outset of Starred's new video for "Mayday," singer Liza Thorn's ode to Echols, one of the West Memphis Three, the trio of teenagers convicted in 1994 of three murders in Arkansas after allegedly killing three children in a satanic ritual. In prison for 18 years, he wrote lyrics for songs by Pearl Jam and Michael Graves of The Misfits, then after new DNA evidence emerged, Echols was freed in 2011. (A new documentary, West of Memphis, explores the case.) Aaron Brown of Focus Creeps directed this slow-panning clip, which cuts haunting archival footage from Echols' trial and imprisonment with shots of Thorn in bed. "Mayday" is taken from an upcoming Starred double-7-inch, to be released for Record Store Day (falling this year on 4/20, cool) by Pendu Sound. See the tracklist below.
