Line Item: Tent by Esther Porter Fold-Over Backpack

March 06, 2013

Sure, we could (and do) talk endlessly about the clothes we love, but for our column Line Item, we ask some of our favorite designers to tell us what they think about the best pieces from their newest collections. Today, Esther Porter of Tent tells us about the fold-over backpack:

All my designs are modern reworkings of classic bag designs, and this season, my favorite piece would have to be the navy fold-over backpack, which is simply constructed, boxy in shape and inspired by military bags, cycle-panniers and dive wet-bags.

I wanted to create a bag that l could ride around London with, something that was refined yet utilitarian. The bag features a fold-over style that keeps things secure and waterproofed and is made from a combination of tent fabric (reclaimed from summer music festivals), British rubber-bonded cotton canvas for increased water resistance and equestrian-grade cotton webbing in the straps for comfort. Navy is my black, and the best part about this new backpack style is that it is trans-seasonal and can be worn with anything.
