Stream: Nine Inch Nails, “March of the Pigs (Superhumanoids Cover)”

May 08, 2013

Nine Inch Nails' 1994 single "March of the Pigs" has never really been for the feint of heart; it's got a jagged, unpredictable meter, and sounds so dense and abrasive for the majority of its run-time that when everything suddenly grinds to a screeching halt to make way for a jazzy piano line and Trent's very smooth and up-close tenor, it almost sounds like we're listening to a different song. In the hands of the very dreamy-sounding Los Angeles electronic trio Superhumanoids, however, it offers pretty much the opposite experience—all economical, thumping rhythms and glittery R&B melisma. In fact, if the lyrics didn't revolve around a cryptic, socio-political metaphor involving pig slaughter, it'd probably be a perfect summer jam. Look for Superhumanoids on tour next month in North America.
