After releasing his debut album Needs in February, San Francisco's Giraffage has basically toured his ass off. As he heads to the end of a European jaunt and segues to a North American run of dates, the beatmaker and cheery synth master has served up a fine FADER mix, featuring one of his own remixes of The-Dream, my favorite Slava song, plus a very classic Parris Mitchell track. What do you miss most about San Francisco? Definitely the people. San Franciscans are the chillest and most down to earth people, so it's always a very welcoming environment wherever you go. Also sushi burritos. Sushi burritos are really rad to me.
How has touring been treating you? Touring is insane and it's really difficult to properly encapsulate what it truly is until you go and actually do it. On one hand, it is a beautiful thing to be able to travel the world and meet amazing people all while doing what you love. On the other hand, it's so tiring and lonely sometimes when everyone you know and love is on the other side of the world. But all in all, it's an amazing thing and I'm extremely grateful and blessed to be able to experience it. Also I've been eating pizza just about every day for at least one meal. It's been rad, and pizza is the shit, especially European pizza (most of the times).
Do you need to be at home to write new music, or can you produce in airports, hotels and backseats? I've been chugging along, but I'm definitely not at 100% efficiency. I made this mix during a long train ride in Germany.
What kind of food do you like to cook, and how do you make it? I like to eat anything and everything but I'm a horrible cook. Probably bagel bites or something via a microwave.
