Line Item: Bodega x Vans Vault OG Authentic LX

June 24, 2013

Sure, we could (and do) talk endlessly about the clothes we love, but for our column Line Item, we ask some of our favorite designers to tell us what they think about the best pieces from their newest collections. Today, Marvin Bynoe of Boston's Bodega boutique tells us about the store's latest collaboration with Vans, available for sale now here and here.

We worked with Vans in the past and had great success with the project. All of us at the shop rock Vans—the older models are comfortable to wear and easy to style, and the newer models from Taka Hayashi are spectacular. For this iteration, I choose the Authentic LX because it's such a simple silhouette. Our latest line of clothes for the shop focuses on mixing and matching fabrics and using very vivid prints, so I used African fabrics for this project. I'm really drawn to the way African prints always seem busy but never seem to clash. If you came to my house you'd see African fabrics draping the curtains and used as tablecloths, and they really bring life to a space. We added suede accents and tortoise shell eyelets to for a luxury detail that would highlight just how loud the fabrics are. The collaboration was really fun, sourcing the correct fabrics and playing with new details I never tried before. I hope everyone loves the new project as much as we do.
