Video: Cool Angels, “Nuance”

Cool Angels is the alias of Nicholas Ray (formerly Speculator), who makes tepid instrumental tracks like "Nuance," a slow-moving burner built from delayed guitar sounds and ominous electronic wobbles. The song chugs along for nearly six minutes, not headed toward anything in particular, just content in its own hollow prettiness. The Samuel Stonefeld-directed video, full of bleakly-rendered shots of concrete freeway ramps, feels appropriately devoid of momentum. Cool Angel's Slow Chase Scenes is out now on DreamRecordings. Another track, the equally languid "Dramatic Scene," is streaming below.
