Stream: Tim Hecker, “Virginal II”

August 28, 2013

Tim Hecker just shared this shifty, keys-based track from his upcoming album, Virgins, captured primarily from live, ensemble performances that he staged in Montreal, Seattle and Reykjavík in 2012. As with the cavernously lit art work, it's got a really palpable feeling of negative space, its icy, out-of-phase piano chords echoing ominously through the chamber room of the recording until they're subsumed by wave of synthesizer chords, which oddly sound much warmer and more human than the real thing. Virgins is out October 14th via Kranky.
