Stream: copeland, “Fit”

August 29, 2013

The artist formerly known as Inga Copeland, who is also half of the (apparently) now defunct duo Hype Williams (not to be confused with the director), is now going by just copeland, and "Fit" is her first release under the new name. Like previous solo material, which is very much worth your time, the song is unsettling and ghostly, a series of hushed carnival synths rendered pastoral by their distance and a few moments of artfully placed feedback. Where her former musical partner Dean Blunt has veered toward solemn, baritone acoustic pieces, copeland's embraced digital dub wholeheartedly, coaxing uneasy beauty from just a few thin sounds.
