Kendrick Lamar Says Macklemore’s Grammy Win Was ‘Well Deserved’

“He went out there and hustled and grinded. Everything happens for a reason’ the universe comes back around, that’s how it go,” said a very zen Lamar in his first post-Grammys interview.

Macklemore kicked-off his apology tour well before he heard his name called at Sunday night's Grammy ceremony; and after he picked up his four trophies-- one for Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Album, included-- he carried on with it, posting the consolatory text message he sent to Kendrick Lamar for all the world to see on his Instagram: "You got robbed. I wanted you to win," he wrote. But turns out his efforts (which have been called into question) are all for naught, because Kendrick is feeling very zen about the whole thing.

"It's well deserved; he did what he did, man," he explained to XXL in an interview, his first post-Grammys interview. "He went out there and hustled and grinded. Everything happens for a reason' the universe comes back around, that's how it go."

He feels less cool about the Grammys' short shrifting hip-hop as a whole, though:

"I definitely feel like they should always have more of the culture up in there, for sure, because we definitely stand out just like any other genre. We part of the world. We part of the movement. So I think any awards, including the Grammys, should always push for more hip-hop because it's music as a whole, it's not just splitting different regions. Everything moves as far as sound and vibrations, and that's how it goes. And we are a part of that."

And asked if there might be a new Good Kid album in the works, Lamar said, “I wouldn’t even know. I got to get back into the studio and vibe out. But once I get in there, for sure, I’ll let y’all know.” Onwards!
