FADER PREMIERE

Eaters is the Brooklyn-based duo of multi-instrumentalist Bob Jones and studio producer Jonathan Schenke. The former plays guitar in Frankie Rose's live band, and the latter has engineered and mixed records for Parquet Courts, Dirty Beaches and other DIY scene stalwarts. "Far," the first song from their debut record as Eaters, merges comically exaggerated electro-funk with shots of deadpan, Auto Tuned vox and abstractly texturized beat work. Something about it recalls the vocoded experiments of '70s outsider synthesist Bruce Haack, but then again, like many of the artist's on Joel Ford's new Driftless Recordings label, these pop-inclined, machine tinkerers just seem like they're off on their own tangent. Eaters is out April 15th via Driftless and Dull Tools, the label that first released Parquet Courts' Light Up Gold.
