Video: Koen Holtkamp, “Between Visible Things”

Watch a Dutch football match-inspired video for “Between Visible Things,” a track from the new solo album from Mountains’ Koen Holtkamp.

March 24, 2014

Perhaps best known as one half of the New York droner duo Mountains, New York's Koen Holtkamp has a solo album full of enveloping guitar and synth collages coming out tomorrow. In this video for "Between Visible Things," his delicately flickering modular work imbues footage of a European sporting match with a counterintuitive calm. The video, he says, "takes the classic era of The Netherlands 'Total Football' as inspiration. A beautiful fluid style of soccer which is extremely malleable and often highlights passing over high scores. The video uses formal masking techniques and found footage of a soccer match as source material to create moving graphic images that sit somewhere between collage and choreography." Motion & Connected Works is out March 25th via Thrill Jockey. Tourdates below.
