The next wave of webstores championing emerging designers.

April 02, 2014

As much as e-commerce has evolved over the past decades, URL window shopping is still a frontier when it comes to finding specialty labels all in one place. And many of our favorite online destinations that stock FADER favorites now have brick-and-mortar locations. So we dug a little deeper to bring you the next wave of webstores championing emerging designers.

What originally began as a livejournal dedicated to showcasing independent designers has now become one of the best places online to discover emerging labels. Pour Porter still uses their blog to introduce new designers and items as they arrive which is a handy tool to add to your RSS if you’re interested in keeping tabs on rising talents. You can check out their well-curated roster here and read up on each designer.

Run by a former buyer at Satine-- one of Los Angeles’ popular high-end stores-- the “online corner store” approaches their buying process with the same quality as Satine but at a lower price point. As its name implies, a lot of their offerings are streetwear from lesser known labels like Huf and Deer Dana, whose comic tees featuring the likes of Rick Ross, Grace Jones, and Lil Wayne are like collectibles you’ll want to snatch up. Super Street also has a great selection of jewelry, bags, swimwear, and home oddities and curiosities like Baron Von Fancy lighters and Lucia San Miguel’s bright pillows.

There are a lot of places to buy vintage online but few approach their styling as thoughtfully as Where I Was From. It can be a pain to imagine how a piece fits into your closet when looking at it on your browser but the online store's worn with section is a huge visual help. WIWF also has an editorial eye for vintage pieces and showcases them accordingly with beautiful spreads.

Considering it's not yet a household name, SSENSE has an an all-star lineup of designers. The online boutique, which caters to both men and women, carries everyone from Yves Saint Laurent to We Are Handsome. But we pay closer attention to their inklings for up-and-coming designers like MSGM, R13, and Yang Li.
