Opening Ceremony, the downtown NYC style mecca founded by Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, has long prided itself upon being the premier mom-and-pop store that stocks must-have labels. But it seems like their latest business move will launch the once-homespun shop into another retail echelon. Announced today, via WWD, Opening Ceremony has received investment funding from Berkshire Partners, a Boston-based private equity firm. With the added boon of the investment, Lim and Leon plan to further develop OC's in-house line, build out their e-commerce shop and open new locations. “We go by our instincts — it’s the way Opening Ceremony has gotten to where it is today. Carol and I want to continue the special path of Opening Ceremony because we’ve felt such a strong desire for it from our customers. We’ve got a lot of ideas for more Opening Ceremony stores and we want to build our online platform to be even more dynamic," says Leon. No location details have been confirmed as yet, but with NYC, LA, London and Japan shops up and running, we're curious to see just where this brand will pop up next.
