Earlier this month, when I saw Lykke Li perform a handful of songs from I Never Learn at a listening party in Brooklyn, I noted that it seemed like the Swedish singer/songwriter had been listening to a lot of classic American rock music. There was a clean, unspecific simplicity to her arrangements and lyrics that made those four or five songs feel like old-school hits for a massive audience. That sweet, somber familiarity is audible on record, too; I Never Learn is officially out May 5th via Atlantic, but it's streaming in full today over at NPR. Have a listen, and for a little history, read Lykke Li's cover story from The FADER #71.
