Twice a month, a different FADER staff member will pick a clothing item or accessory that he or she has lately been spending a lot of time with—or would like to—and write a little love letter to it. We would’ve done a column on who we’re dating but that seemed a little bit much. This week, Deidre talks about BASE Range’s Long Strap Overall.
Up until recently, I worked as a freelancer, and I was lucky enough to work from home in a robe, only required to get dressed two, maybe three days a week. Now, as a full time employee, coming into The FADER office five solid days a week, I’m faced with the ongoing drama of what to wear each morning. This is not one of those fun sort of melodramatic moments that I play up—it’s a very real and serious source of stress.
Lately, it feels like I’ve mix-and-matched the shit out of my wardrobe, and I’ve grown weary of the same ripped up jeans and artfully messy T-shirt combo that I fall back on when I hit the snooze button too many times and have no time to plan out a look. Feeling dredged in a style rut, but equally not wanting to have to miss out on more precious moments of sleep, I started looking for key wardrobe pieces that would help my lazy-girl style plight. That’s when I stumbled upon BASE Range’s Long Strap Overall. To be quite honest, I hadn’t dabbled in overall territory since my private school elementary days. But BASE Range has taken the quaint overall, a dungaree closely associated with farmers, and whipped up a fashion-forward, almost architectural take in a sustainably sourced organic cotton. While the geniuses at BASE Range haven’t reinvented the wheel, they’ve certainly made sleeping later and still looking ever so pulled together a whole lot easier. And for this, my nine to five self forever grateful
