Listen to “Smoke Em Up” by Indiana Rock Outsiders Dust From 1000 Yrs

Listen to Dust From 1000 Yrs bleakly comforting tribute to cigarettes.

FADER PREMIERE

There's a vignette in Wayne Wang's Blue in the Face when a character played by Jim Jarmusch is about to have his "last" cigarette, so he explains to a store owner, played by Harvey Keitel, about the appeal of smoking and how every drag is a reminder of his mortality. "Smoke Em Up," a bleakly comforting acoustic ballad by Bloomington, Indiana's Dust From 1000 Yrs, has the opening line I got a pack of smokes today/ something to do while I waste my life away, and it makes me think about that film clip for obvious reasons. This listless ode to nicotine comes from Famous Cigarettes, their new split cassette with Boston's Bad History Month; its cover art is cleverly designed to resemble a custom pack of bogeys. The split, out June 10th, also includes Dust From 1000 Yrs biting, anti-social rock gem "Party Song" (choice lyric: This is a party song/ but I don't want you to sing along/ I'd rather you just shut up/ and get the fuck out of my house).
