FADER PREMIERE

Beyond the fact that he's a thus-far anonymous, Memphis-based musician who produced four of the tracks on Cities Aviv's second album, Come to Life, I don't know much about RPLD GHSTS. His SoundCloud page suggests that the moniker is pronounced "repelled ghosts" (check out the URL), and that he self-released an album last year (o v e r n i g h t r o m e) that was full of swampy, mechanically degraded sample work and sunken bedroom vocals. Now, he has a new, alternate identity called Universal Lingo; this is confusing, seeing as we never quite knew who RPLD GHSTS was in the first place, but with its starkly defined vocals and chunky funk bass, this first single from the project feels somehow more face-forward, like RPLD GHSTS lifted partially out of the murk.
