Marianne Faithfull Stars in the Latest Saint Laurent Ad Campaign

Marianne Faithfull’s personal style is so venerated in insider fashion circles that it’s said to be one of the primary inspirations behind Kate Moss’ entire wardrobe—Faithfull is the OG ’60s It Girl, who recorded some incredible songs, dated Mick Jagger and was even somewhat of a muse to the original Yves Saint Laurent. That blend of style and rock substance makes Faithfull the perfect frontwoman for one of Hedi Slimane’s campaigns for Saint Laurent, who’s past selects have included Curtis Harding, Marilyn Manson and Courtney Love and Christopher Owens. You can barely see what she’s wearing in the ad, but that’s not even the point: you just know a cool girl when you see one.

Recorded some pretty incredible songs? I really think you should have the decency to name her as the singer and songwriter that she is – she celebrates her 50th anniversary as a recording artist this year!- and not just some faded 60s starlet.

“some faded 60s starlet” are your words, not mine, my friend

Yep, but articles like the one above make her look like it. My point is that it wouldn’t hurt journalists to focus on her career instead of a relationship that ended more than 40 years ago. “As Tears Go By” is really not the most incredible song she’s ever recorded, only the first. Take it or leave it, I think that’s valid and constructive criticism even if the wording is off.
