The unbridled joy at the heart of Pharrell's unescapable hit "Happy" has landed a group of six young Iranians in jail. According to BBC reports, after paying tribute to the song in a March Youtube clip in which the three men and three women danced along to the track, the sextet was arrested and forced to denounce the video on government television.

Tehran's chief of police Hossein Sajedinia publicly decried the "obscene" clip in a recent statement. "After a vulgar clip which hurt public chastity was released in cyberspace, police decided to identify those involved in making that clip," explained Sajedinia.

Pharrell, for his part, took to his Facebook page to express that he was "beyond sad that these kids were arrested for trying to spread happiness."

Thanks to Dazed, you can watch the original clip above and their forced confession below, in which the six apparently claimed they're actors who were tricked into making the video for an audition.
