Kid Cudi Lands True to Form on Hit-Boy’s Posse Cut “Scorn”

Producer/rapper Hit-Boy drops the latest single from his newly released HS87 compilation album, We the Plug.

May 27, 2014

Grammy winning producer/rapper Hit-Boy has been bidding for his spot as a rapper since he dropped "Jay-Z Interview" nearly two years ago. Best known for big beats like "Niggas in Paris," "Clique" and "Trophies," he's got a knack for screwing weird noises into sweeping orchestral arrangements—less an identifiable sound, more a consistent dedication to making something you haven't heard before. With his latest single "Scorn," off his We The Plug crew album, he flips Mount Kimble's "Blood and Form" and drags in loopy woodwinds, record scratches, saxophone solos. Its the kind of freewheeling eccentric posse cut A Tribe Called Quest might have made if they came out during the hipster rap wave of 2008. So it makes sense that Kid Cudi pops up here alongside Audio Push and Kent M$ney—his feature recalls the spirit of his earliest intergalactic raps in all the right ways. Stream below, and pick up Hit-Boy and HS87's We The Plug on iTunes today.
