Television station WGHP in Winston-Salem, N.C, reports that renowned poet and activist Dr. Maya Angelou has passed away at 86. She was found by her caretaker early Wednesday morning. Dr. Angelou had reportedly been battling health problems and canceled recent scheduled appearances, including an honoring ceremony in Houston scheduled for this Friday. Her words have inspired several generations to put pen to paper, and her passing leaves us particularly muted. Her bright spirit will be sorely missed.
