Watch Emily Reo's Sweet and Surreal "Rainbow Road" Video

FADER PREMIERE

Emily Reo just made her first-ever music video. The clip is for for "Rainbow Road" from the LA songwriter's Olive Juice LP, a lethargic and loopy synth-pop song that I think samples the Mario Kart OST. The official video goes full-on Nintendo fantasy, with Reo appearing as the fictional princess of her own dreamscape where her only friends are some smiling yellow beach balls. There's also slow-moving shots of pretty, abandoned settings that add an illusory and surreal undertone—as if Reo really is the singular inhabitant of her cotton candy-coated world. As previously mentioned, Reo just re-released Olive Juice on a limited-edition cassette through her Florida-based label, Elestial Sound. She's also on tour right now.
