In an Instagram posted just minutes ago, legendary and longtime Hot 97 DJ Angie Martinez has confirmed she is leaving the New York radio station. “Today I resigned from HOT97. I am grateful to the Emmis family for my time with the company and the immeasurable way that it has shaped my life,” she wrote. “This was one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever had to make but ultimately it is time to move on, to grow and to be challenged in new ways.” Called the “The Voice of New York”, Martinez has built a strong and loyal following of listeners since starting in 1996 and is one of the keystones of the iconic hip-hop radio station’s lineup. Today’s show will be her last—listen to “Ladies Night” in her honor.
Update: According to MTV, Clear Channel has confirmed that Angie Martinez will be joining Hot 97 rival Power 105. Her new afternoon show will also be syndicated on 103.5 The Beat in Miami.
