Listen to Jai Paul’s Brother A.K.’s Debut Track, “So Good”

Listen to the Jai Paul’s Brother A.K.’s first track “So Good,” a collaboration with the London-based singer Nao

June 18, 2014

In a recent interview with Dazed, XL labelhead Rodaidh McDonald confirmed that the mysterious U.K. songwriter Jai Paul is still hard at work on his first LP, but his brother and longtime collaborator A.K. Paul has emerged from the shadows with his own debut track as a singer. "So Good" is a collaboration with London-based singer Nao that relies on the same kind of beat that underlies the best Jai tracks that have surfaced to date. Equal parts spectral and sensual, A.K. leaves room for both Nao's manic chirp and his own dead-eyed vocalizations. Any parallels to his brother's tunes start to make sense once you take a peek at A.K's (real name: Anup) Discogs page. He's had a hand in the bespoke machinations of Jai's "BTSTU" and "Jasmine," as well as tracks for Jessie Ware, Sam Smith, Emelí Sande and Big Boi. So Paul knows (slightly) off-center pop music, and "So Good" finally features him stepping forward and claiming some of the limelight for himself.
