Waka Flocka Flame Finds New York Roots on “3 Gold Chains”

Waka Flocka Flame connects with Troy Ave and his New York past on “3 Gold Chains”

July 15, 2014

Waka Flocka Flame might claim Southside Atlanta's Riverdale on record, but the influence of his New York birthplace sporadically pops up throughout his music, most recently throughout his latest mixtape, I Can't Rap Vol. 1. Hosted by New York rap icon DJ Whoo Kid, it's a classic 2000s-style beat-jack tape, with Waka running through hits of the last year with only a few wholly original songs in the mix. "3 Gold Chains" mines the sonic ties of NYC--complete with requisite Troy Ave guest spot--but it's still the kind of lumbering banger that made Flocka famous.
