Get to Know the Nose-Wrinkling Funk of Numbers Star Redinho

London producer turns up the funk on the first single from his debut album on revered UK label Numbers.

UK label Numbers has a back catalogue reads like a who's who of electronic music: Hudson Mohawke, Rustie, Jamie xx, SOPHIE, and Deadboy amongst others. Hanging around in the background until has been London producer/vocoder vocalist Redinho. I caught an early live show of his at SXSW back in 2011 and it was a total trip: digital funk that hot-wired my joints. There's been the odd murmur over the last couple of years—his most recent being a guest vocal on Rustie's new album Green Language—but he's finally stepping out of the shadows with "Playing With Fire," the first single from his self-titled debut album out September 23rd. It's one of those nose-wrinkling tunes—you know, when you screw your face up to get deeper inside the funk. Those helicopter chops that run beneath are what'll keep you on your toes, though.
