Hot off her smash collaboration with Iggy Azalea on “Fancy,” Charli XCX has pulled a surprise about-turn and revisited an old pop classic from the 1960s. For Transmitter, the young British singer gives “I Want Candy”—which was originally recorded by the Strangeloves and then later, bizarrely, by Bow Wow Wow—some rock and roll attitude, which is somewhat a departure from her usual danceable electronic pop sound. It's just the latest chapter for this wunderkind, whom we forecasted great things from in 2012. Couple that with the recent successes of “Fancy” and “Boom Clap,” and we could only imagine what's next in store for her.
