Joey Bada$$ Heads Back to the ‘90s in “Big Dusty”

Joey’s new video stars Tommy jackets and boom-bap drums, his upcoming album B4DA$$ drops this fall

When Joey Bada$$ first came out he the '90s throwback sound immediately caught people's attention. But with nuanced groups like Ratking rising up and the summer success of Bobby Shmurda's raw sound, Joey's latest video "Big Dusty" feels oddly centered. Joey's technical ability remains sharp, and it's no surprise a song called "Big Dusty" recalls classic '90s New York boom-bap production and a video full of Starter jackets and camera mugging like they're aiming to be featured on Yo, MTV Raps! Some wrung their hands at Joey and the Pro Era crew for reusing these tropes, but youth only comes once. Why hate? "Big Dusty" is the first single from Joey's debut album B4DA$$ dropping this fall.
