Vocal manipulation in rap music has taken many different forms: the chipmunk soul samples of the early 2000s, the auto-tune soaked hook singers of today, and even deep pitched vocal tributes to the stylings of DJ Screw. This week, Chief Keef previewed a hyper-speed version of "Wait" where his voice sounds like his own version of a chipmunk sample. As bizarre as it sounded, it was kind of darkly adorable to hear lyrics like I told that bitch to wait delivered from a helium pitch: when dropped at regular speed, it's as much of a trippy listen as before.
