Machel Montano Drops His First Carnival 2015 Release, “Remedy”

The reigning Soca Monarch unleashes his latest jam.

October 27, 2014

When last we checked in with Machel Montano, he spoke of his personal journey to refine his signature sound—a melange of classic Trinidadian soca, African rhythms, and EDM-friendly BPMs. In "Remedy," his first official release for Carnival 2015, the six-time reigning Soca Monarch chips closer and closer to this musical goal. Produced by the Trinidad-based Precision Productions, "Remedy" boasts thumping drums and incessant chants that recall Ladysmith Black Mambazo—his South African collaborators from 2013's "Possesed"—all topped with cinematic synths that lend a melodic fluidity to the track.

Though there's been much speculation in Trinidadian newspapers as to whether or not the annual Carnival festival would take place next year with the possible spread of Ebola looming large, Montano's new jam provides a bit of musical therapy to ease anxious revelers and get them in gear for the marathon run of fetes and pageantry. Check out the world premiere of "Remedy" below, and it's accompanying animated lyric video above.
