Converse Has Elevated Dirty Sneakers Into Art

If you ever wanted to see what Patti Smith and Trash Talk’s dirty sneakers look like, now’s the time.

March 02, 2015

From its inception, the Chuck Taylor has been a versatile, blank canvas sort of sneaker, with each crisp, new pair primed and ready for the accumulation of memories and dirt that lay ahead in its life span. Converse, privy to the gritty glory of well-worn kicks, has elevated a slew of dirty and custom sneakers to an artistic level in their spring campaign. Comissioning beat up Chucks from the likes of Patti Smith and Lee Spielman of Trash Talk, Converse has captured the essence of each owner through a series of still-life portraits entitled "Made By You." The entire photo series will be displayed in an open-to-the-public exhibit at Flatiron Plaza in NYC today, March 2nd, through Saturday, March 7th. Check out exclusive photos of custom Chucks from Trash Talk's Spielman and Josh Landau, lead singer of The Shrine, below, along with studded joints from fashion's favorite punk, Kate Lanphear.
