This Documentary About Chicago Bucket Drummers Needs Your Help

Connecting with their ancestry through drums and dancing.

March 18, 2015

There's nothing that will warm your heart quite like a homecoming narrative. That's the premise of Drum Beat Journey, a documentary that follows four young bucket drummers from Chicago as they embark on a life-altering trip to Senegal, including a visit to a former slave trade outpost. The boys—Dre, Monte, Dontay, and Quan—connect with their ancestry through a journey the filmmakers describe as illuminating "their connection to the African culture through drumming and dance; a story about growth and perseverance through challenges, building community, and understanding one's history." The film is currently in production and raising funds via Indiegogo.
