Kali Uchis Debuts A Far-Out New Video For “Rush”

Summer ‘72 on wheels.

May 05, 2015

At a recent show in Brooklyn, Kali Uchis bounced through "Rush" for a crowd of teengirl fans with big hair and heavy eyeliner fashioned after her own. Though few were born before 1995, the kids in the crowd seemed to clamor for the Summer-'72 vibes Kali has mastered: in today's debut, she channels Death Proof for a hazy romp along the highway in muscle cars and rollerblades. "I was inspired by Quentin Tarantino, freedom, revolution, euphoria, nature, unity," Kali told FADER of the clip she directed alongside WIISSA. "My hope is that while watching this video you will find a moment of peace in this world full of images of violence and injustice. Thank you to everyone that helped me bring this vision to life; Wiissa, my beautiful friends, inside & out; Natasha, Jennie, Brilliant, Aidan. Thank you Rudy, Destiny, Nimza, Samantha. Thank you to the man who identified himself as 'Chocodile Dundee' aka 'Sexual Chocolate' who was so sweet to save us when our car broke down."
