Hot on the heels of Spotify's ambitious announcement to expand into video and partner with many new companies, Music Business Worldwide reports that the company also hired 3 new executives with lots of experience in radio and music television: Tuma Basa, whose resume includes BET, MTV, and Revolt TV, Austin Kramer, who helped bring EDM to Sirius Radio, and Mjeema Pickett, a former programming director for VH1.

Many people see Spotify’s new direction as a preemptive strike on Apple, which is expected to enter the streaming service market in the coming months. Since Apple has famous, high-powered curators like Zane Lowe and Trent Reznor, Spotify is adding some of its own. “Honestly, you’d have a hard time finding anyone who is more serious and passionate about Spotify’s music,” CEO Daniel EK said yesterday. “These guys are really helping shape the future of music. Thank you to them.”
