Earlier this week, a memo from Beatport surfaced in which the popular dance music platform said it was currently unable to pay any second quarter royalties. The publishing company/distributor/label EPM nobly stepped up yesterday and agreed to front those missing payments to prevent labels and musicians from foundering. EPM also reiterated the importance of Beatport, which has faced some backlash on social media, declaring, "Beatport remains a key sales platform for everyone in the dance music community and we look forward to them being back on track in the very near future."
According to unnamed sources that spoke with Music Week and Resident Advisor, the story is actually slightly more complicated. These sources allege that Beatport actually has been distributing some royalties. However, only major labels have received these payments.
Beatport recently agreed to bring its dance-music expertise and exclusive videos to Spotify.
